Glenn Maxwell scores a century off 50 balls, propelling Australia to 241-4 in the second Twenty20 international against the West Indies in Adelaide on Sunday.
Maxwell showcased formidable skill, entering at a critical juncture with Australia at 64-3 in the seventh over. His innings featured an impressive array of eight sixes and 12 fours, culminating in an unbeaten 120 from 55 balls.
Following their 11-run victory in the first match in Hobart, thanks to David Warner’s 70, Australia maintained their aggressive approach. Warner signalled his intentions early, hitting a six from spinner Akeal Hosein’s delivery, but was soon contained by precise bowling.
Warner’s opening partner, Josh Inglis, was dismissed early. He was caught after a risky attempt to clear Jason Holder from the field.
Captain Mitchell Marsh contributed a rapid 29 from 12 balls, including two sixes, pushing the score to 58-2 during the power-play. However, his attempt at another big hit resulted in his dismissal by Holder off Alzarri Joseph’s bowling, with Warner exiting shortly after on 22.
Maxwell then took charge, steering Australia to 99-3 by the mid-point. Targeting the boundary with each ball, he quickly reached his fifty in 25 deliveries.
Maxwell’s partnerships, first an 82-run stand with Marcus Stoinis (16) followed by a 95-run collaboration with Tim David (31 off 14), were instrumental, culminating in his reaching a remarkable fifth T20 century.
