Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Indian Premier League auction. He described the decision as a “big call” after enjoying many memorable seasons in the tournament.
Maxwell made the announcement on his official Instagram account. He did not specify a particular reason for opting out of the IPL 2026 season. In his social media post, the 37-year-old cricketer reflected on his time in the world’s premier T20 league. “After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name in the auction this year,” Maxwell wrote.
He expressed profound gratitude for the league’s impact. “The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched.”
Maxwell concluded his message by thanking supporters. “The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever. Thank you for all your support over the years. Hopefully, see you soon.”
Throughout his IPL career, the explosive batter and part-time off-spinner represented four franchises. These include Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Punjab Kings, and most notably, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Maxwell’s announcement follows similar decisions by other prominent international players. Former South African captain Faf du Plessis and England’s Moeen Ali have also chosen to participate in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season instead of the IPL. Moeen Ali shared his excitement about joining the PSL. He called it a “New Era” and praised its reputation for “top-level T20 cricket.”
