The Acting Information Minister of Pakistan, Murtaza Solangi, has rejected claims regarding the Pakistan Army’s deployment in Gilgit-Baltistan.
In an official communication, Solangi dismissed the claims about the Pakistan Army’s presence in Gilgit-Baltistan as unfounded. He emphasized that daily operations in commercial centres and educational establishments in the GB region continue unhindered. Section 144 has been enforced in Gilgit-Baltistan by the Home Department, solely considering the security needs surrounding the chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
Through a message on his X account, the temporary minister explained that the involvement of the Pakistan Army and civil armed forces is limited to ensuring peace and stability during the chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). He mentioned that consistent with previous years, extra security provisions are in place to safeguard the routes of processions and Imambargahs.
Further, in a subsequent post on the platform, Solangi maintained that the region has witnessed peaceful protests, occasionally sparked by religious and sectarian issues. Still, the overall state of law and order remains steady. He sought to refute claims of disturbance as unfounded, asserting that there were no incidents of firing or damage to public and private properties. “The protests represent a regular democratic reaction to local matters,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the Gilgit-Baltistan Home Department has confirmed that the region is experiencing tranquillity, with business hubs and educational institutions functioning normally.
