Heavy rains caused a devastating flood in Gilgit Baltistan, sweeping away 15 tourist vehicles along the picturesque Babusar route. This disaster resulted in at least three deaths, several injuries, and left more than a dozen people missing.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that the incident occurred at around 3:30 PM, affecting a 7 to 8-kilometre stretch between Jal and Diyung.
Rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate survivors. Officials are transporting machinery to the affected areas, with some already on-site. The National Highway Authority (NHA) is clearing blockages on the Karakoram Highway, restoring traffic at Chilas Bazaar, Zero Point, and Governor Farm. One-way access has been reopened at Passu and Jalkhad, while efforts continue near Tatta Pani.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is working closely with local authorities to ensure efficient rescue and relief efforts. So far, no additional casualties have been reported as these operations continue. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities associated with monsoon seasons in mountainous regions. Travellers are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and to avoid high-risk areas during heavy rainfall.
Authorities are urging the public to report any information regarding missing persons. With Pakistan experiencing extensive impacts from the monsoon, it is essential to maintain heightened preparedness.
