The Gilgit-Baltistan election schedule announced by the regional election authority has set June 7, 2026, as the polling date for the Assembly election across all 24 constituencies. The announcement gives candidates and voters a clear timeline after the earlier election plan was postponed.
GB Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan released the schedule and said authorities had completed all arrangements for the vote. He also said departments would work together to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Under the schedule, candidates can submit nomination papers from April 16 to April 20. Officials will display the preliminary list of candidates on April 21, while scrutiny of nomination papers will continue until April 28.
Authorities will decide appeals related to nomination papers by May 9. Candidates can withdraw their papers by May 11, and election officials will allot electoral symbols on May 12.
Polling to Take Place in All 24 Constituencies
The regional election authority said voters in all 24 constituencies will cast their ballots on the same day. The schedule marks an important step toward completing the electoral process after months of uncertainty over the vote.
Officials said they had finalised arrangements for the election and would rely on interdepartmental coordination to maintain order on polling day.
Authorities had originally scheduled the general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan for January 24, 2026. However, they postponed the vote indefinitely just days after the announcement because of harsh weather conditions in the region.
The last Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections took place on November 15, 2020. The new schedule now restarts the formal election process and sets the stage for the next regional vote
