Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid was reportedly placed under house arrest on Thursday for allegedly providing shelter to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders.
After housing PTI leaders in G-B House, the location was declared a sub-jail, with police and rangers stationed outside.
Sources say PTI leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Malika Bukhari, Musrat Cheema, and others were detained from G-B House Islamabad earlier. Khurshid’s role in sheltering these wanted leaders is currently being assessed. Although strict action against the CM is not being taken due to his position, authorities will monitor his future activities.
The Interior Ministry will reportedly consider allowing the CM to travel to G-B for official duties, but he will be restricted from participating in activities in Islamabad. Critics argue that placing an elected Chief Minister under house arrest indicates a dictatorship.
