On Sunday, the federal government reappointed Ghulam Nabi Memon as the Inspector General of Police for Sindh, marking his second tenure in this role. This decision follows the end of Riffat Mukhtar Raja’s term, the Sindh IG appointed by the interim government, who has been instructed to return to the Establishment Division.
Memon, with the rank of BS-21, has had a distinguished career, including two stints as Additional IGP in Karachi from 2019 to 2022 and a role as Additional IGP for the Special Branch. Born in 1966, he embarked on his police journey in 1991 as an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), accumulating extensive experience and recognition throughout his service in various domestic and international assignments.
Throughout his career, Memon has earned numerous accolades for his service. He held significant positions in Karachi, including Zone South DIG and Headquarters DIG, before being transferred to the federal level in 2011. His early career, spanning the first six years, saw him serving in various Punjab districts. Memon, originally from district Badin in Sindh, was appointed as the SP for Ghotki in 1997, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to policing and public service in the region.
