A powerful explosion has severely damaged a major natural gas pipeline in Peshawar. The blast targeted the 24-inch main supply line along the Karak-Nowshera route in the Hasankhel area.
The incident triggered a large fire and forced an immediate shutdown of the gas supply. Authorities suspended delivery to multiple districts as a critical safety precaution. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has dispatched emergency repair teams. Their first priority is to isolate the damaged section and control the situation.
The explosion will significantly impact gas distribution across the region. Supplies to Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, and Swat are likely to be affected.

SNGPL General Manager Waqas Shinwari confirmed the widespread disruption. He stated that alternative arrangements are being put in place to manage supply. The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi may also face shortages. However, officials will prioritise gas supply during morning and evening mealtimes.
Repair work will begin only after crews fully extinguish the fire. A detailed safety inspection of the blast site will follow. Local police have urged residents to avoid the area until officials declare it safe. They have also not ruled out the possibility of sabotage or terrorist activity.
SNGPL has launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. The focus is on restoring supply and ensuring public safety.
