The gas shortage crisis has intensified as winter has brought unannounced and protracted gas load shedding to Karachi.
Karachiites reported unannounced gas load shedding or poor stove pressure in Landhi, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and residents of North Nazimabad have no gas.
The other areas include Sir Syed Town, New Karachi, Nagan Chowrangi, Orangi Town, Railway Colony, Rashid Minhas Road, Federal B Area, Gadap, and Kathore.
Residents reported gas was given too briefly and at low pressure, making cooking difficult.
The province needs more than 1,250 mmcfd of gas, but Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) only supplies 900 mmcfd.
Sindh’s provincial minister acknowledged a gas scarcity. “People in the province are enduring serious hardships owing to gas load shedding, and industries are closing, causing unemployment and hurting the national economy,” he said.
“Sindh produces 2.111 MMcf/day of gas, but only 700-800 MMcf/day is given,” he said.
