Former Welsh forward Gareth Bale recently provided insight into how his ex-teammate, Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, would react during their time together at Real Madrid, particularly when Ronaldo didn’t contribute to a win.
In an interview for a YouTube channel, Bale detailed his experiences playing alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid for five years. During this time, they achieved four Champions League titles and solidified their legacy as two of the footballing world’s biggest names.
H2: Ronaldo’s Fierce Competitive Spirit and Teammate Dynamics
According to Bale, Ronaldo’s fiercely competitive nature could sometimes result in displays of frustration if he did not score during a victorious match. “He was actually okay. He had his moments. For example, if we win 5-0 and he doesn’t score, he throws his boots like he’s angry. It’s like your team winning in the Ryder Cup, but you didn’t get the point, so you are angry,” shared Bale.
Despite these flashes of temper, Bale defended Ronaldo’s character, describing him as a “nice guy”. He addressed public perceptions about Ronaldo, explaining, “But he was a nice guy, nothing wrong, we didn’t have any problems. A lot of people could be scared of how he is, but if you’re not, then it’s fine.”
Bale, Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema formed a formidable trio at Real Madrid. Their collective efforts led to numerous victories for the team, with a record of winning 427 out of their 658 games, a legacy that includes the significant achievement of clinching four Champions League titles.
