Westeros will expand again with a new sequel series now in development, as confirmed directly by George R.R. Martin.
He revealed that several projects are in early stages, opening the possibility that a new television sequel might debut before he finishes “The Winds of Winter.” The Game of Thrones franchise continues to grow since the original series concluded in 2019. The hit prequel “House of the Dragon” returns for its third season in summer 2026.
HBO also plans to premiere “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” based on Martin’s novellas, in January 2026. In November 2025, Martin confirmed the franchise’s ongoing expansion, detailing five or six different TV programs currently in active development.

Fans continue to discuss the status of the original book series, since Martin has worked on the sixth novel, “The Winds of Winter,” since 2011 and has yet to finish it. As a result, one or more of these new sequels may air before he concludes the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels.
