Perplexity AI opens its Comet browser to everyone worldwide, free of charge, as of October 2025. Initially launched in July for Max subscribers at $200 monthly, Comet attracted millions to its waitlist. Now, anyone can access it without a subscription. The company claims, “The internet is better on Comet,” positioning it as a rival to Google Chrome.
Comet enhances browsing with AI-driven features. For example, it streamlines web searches, tab management, email drafting, and online shopping. This agentic approach keeps users focused with quick answers and fewer distractions.
Perplexity calls traditional chatbots outdated. Instead, Comet’s AI assistant joins users online, assisting with tasks such as research, coding, and e-commerce. Currently available on desktop, a mobile version will arrive soon. This puts Comet in direct competition with AI-enhanced browsers, such as Google’s Gemini-powered Chrome.

Comet introduces innovative tools. The Email Assistant, exclusive to Max subscribers, simplifies scheduling and drafts replies. Users can CC it on emails or query their inbox directly. Additionally, Background Assistants handle tasks asynchronously, tackling to-do lists while users focus elsewhere. These turn curiosity into productivity.
