Following recent shootings in Moscow, the French government has elevated its terror alert to the maximum level, announced Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.
The decision was made after a meeting with top security and defence officials, along with President Emmanuel Macron, Attal disclosed via a post on X.
This precautionary measure, taken months before Paris is set to host the Olympic Games, is in response to the Islamic State’s admission of orchestrating the Moscow attack and the looming threats facing France, Attal elaborated.
France’s terror alert system comprises three tiers, with the highest level being invoked either in the immediate aftermath of an attack within France or elsewhere or when the threat of such an attack is deemed imminent.
This activation permits the implementation of extraordinary security measures, including enhanced patrols by armed forces at key public locations such as train stations, airports, and religious sites.
