Former Sindh governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad has revealed plans to launch a new political party. Dr. Ibad, who previously led the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Dr. Ibad, who has been residing in the United Arab Emirates since stepping down as governor in 2016, expressed his intention to invite leaders from MQM-Pakistan (MQM-P) to join his new party, urging them to set aside any differences.
During his 14-year tenure as governor, Dr. Ibad witnessed significant political and economic fluctuations.
In his recent statements, he criticized the current government’s performance, suggesting it has limited time left despite ministers’ claims to complete their five-year term. BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, supports this view, predicting that the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led coalition might collapse within the next one-and-a-half years due to economic instability.
Dr Ibad highlighted severe political and economic instability and worsening security. He called for rigorous accountability measures against corruption to foster economic prosperity and emphasized the need for effective governance: “If governance fails, the situation can move in any direction. The country needs strict accountability at this time. The corrupt elements and those who undermine merit should be held accountable.”
