Former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar announced his exit from politics on Friday, joining a growing list of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders who have resigned in the wake of the violent riots that erupted on May 9.
During a press conference held in Lahore, Buzdar condemned the May 9 incidents, noting that the targeted military installations were state properties of Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of preventing such occurrences in the future.
Buzdar, who held the position of Punjab’s chief minister until his term was prematurely terminated in March 2022, expressed his unwavering support for the armed forces of Pakistan. He reiterated his loyalty to the military and affirmed his intention to continue standing with them.
Stressing his commitment to honorable politics, Buzdar noted his disapproval of the prevailing circumstances that have engulfed the country’s political landscape. This has led him to make the difficult decision of withdrawing from politics.
Once perceived as a close ally of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Buzdar’s resignation underscores the increasing political turbulence within the PTI party. His exit from politics signals a significant shift in the political dynamics of the PTI, potentially marking a pivotal moment in the party’s future.
