In a significant ruling, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday in the Toshakhana 2.0 case.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC approved Khan’s bail plea and ordered him to post surety bonds worth Rs1 million each to secure his release.
Following his release, the court-mandated Khan to appear before the trial court.
During the hearing, PTI’s legal counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, argued that the allegations against Khan were based on purported influence for personal benefit. He pointed out that the charge sheet lacked clarity on the principal accused and highlighted that the case was initiated over three years after the alleged events.
Barrister Salman also argued that no violation of the Toshakhana policy occurred, asserting that the gifts were obtained through proper channels.
Justice Aurangzeb criticized the previous government’s policy of maintaining confidentiality over Toshakhana details, noting that such information was often not disclosed in court proceedings.
The FIA prosecutor challenged these claims, asserting that a Bulgari gift set was not registered with the Toshakhana and accusing Khan and his wife of causing financial losses to the state by undervaluing the gifts.
The hearing was adjourned after a short break, during which the prosecutor expressed concerns about delays in indicting Bushra Bibi, Khan’s wife.
Upon granting bail, the court cautioned that bail could be revoked if misused.
