Former Sindh education minister Hamida Khuhro passed away on Sunday in Karachi.

Hamida Khuhro’s funeral will be held after Ars prayers after which she will be laid to rest in Gizri graveyard.

Khuhro was also a prominent writer, professor, educationist and historian. She was also the head of the history department at the University of Sindh.

She held a PhD in South Asian History from the University of London and also attended universities in Karachi, Oxford and Cambridge.

She was the daughter of former chief minister of Sindh Muhammad Ayub Khuhro. The Khuhro family hails from Aqil Village near Larkana and was once a fierce opponent of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

She joined Pakistan Muslim league in 1993 and was appointed as Sindh’s Minister for Education and Literacy in 1990. She was again appointed as Minister for Education in 2004.

She penned many books Mohammed Ayub Khuhro: a life of courage in politics and The Making of Modern Sindh: British Policy and Social Change in the Nineteenth Century.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has extended his deepest condolences on the sad demise of Khuhro, and offered his sympathies to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

He stated that Khuhro contributed to history, education and literature and will always be remembered for her matchless contributions, and the country has lost a great educationist and literary figure.
