A foreign couple, having cycled through 10 countries to reach Pakistan, was robbed in Sindh, authorities revealed on Sunday.
Police reported that the victims, Polish national Kowalczyk Jakub Tomasz and French national Scantamburlo Marie Elisabeth, were mugged near the Sajawal bypass.
An official from the Sindh Archaeology Department clarified that the couple, visiting historical sites, was robbed at the Makli graveyard, which houses nearly half a million tombs. The couple stayed there on Saturday night, where the muggers struck, an assistant at the archaeology department confirmed. They were guests of the provincial archaeology department at the time.
The Sindh Home Minister, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, has demanded a detailed report from the Sujawal SSP and instructed the police to apprehend those responsible promptly. “Investigations must utilize modern and advanced techniques to be effective and successful,” he emphasized.
This incident follows a recent trend of increasing crime in the region. In October, robbers in police uniforms looted foreign tourists in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), taking $1,080 from the victims. The tourists, dismayed by the local security conditions, left Pakistan the following day without filing a complaint.
