On Wednesday, the Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan announced the recall of its ambassador from Iran. This decision follows Tehran’s “unprovoked violation” of Pakistani airspace.
Details of the Incident and Diplomatic Actions
The airstrike by Iran resulted in the tragic deaths of two children and injuries to three girls. The Iranian state media reported that the attack occurred in Panjgur, a border town in Balochistan. The target was identified as the Kouh-Sabz region. Iran’s Tasnim news agency claimed the operation destroyed strongholds of the Jaish al-Adl group.
Local reports indicated a missile strike on a mosque, causing partial damage and injuries. This incident coincided with a meeting between Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Iran has not officially commented, but its Nour News agency acknowledged the strike. In Islamabad, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch condemned the attack as a blatant breach of sovereignty and international law. Pakistan reserves the right to respond and holds Iran responsible for any consequences.
In addition to recalling its ambassador, Pakistan has informed Iran that its ambassador should not return for now. Furthermore, all high-level visits between the two countries have been suspended.
