Recent reports indicate a surge in the price of flour in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with costs exceeding Rs142 per kilogram. This inflation follows an upward trend in wheat prices.
According to the Flour Dealers Association, the cost of a 20-kilogram bag of flour has risen by Rs450 in the past fortnight. Consequently, consumers in Peshawar now have to pay Rs2,850 for a 20-kilogram bag of flour, marking a significant jump from the previous price of Rs2,400.
The association also provided details about the price of a 100-kilogram bag of wheat, which ranges from Rs10,000 to Rs12,000. This situation has raised concerns about potential further flour price increases due to hoarding activities.
PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Directives on Wheat and Flour Prices
In the wake of this escalating scenario, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had previously instructed the responsible authorities to initiate prompt measures to stabilize wheat and flour prices in KP. He has also directed an increase in the supply of these commodities from the Punjab province.
These orders were issued during a meeting to discuss wheat supply and demand dynamics in Punjab and KP provinces. Reflecting on the discussions, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgency to mitigate the inflationary impact on wheat and flour in the KP province. As part of this strategy, he has advised leveraging the supplies from the Punjab province.
