Separately, a Florida TikTok influencer, Marlena Velez, 22, was arrested after she showcased stolen items on her social media platform. Velez, who boasts over 300,000 TikTok followers, allegedly shoplifted 16 items, including household goods and clothing, valued at approximately $500.32, from a Target store in Cape Coral on October 30, as the Fort Myers News-Press reported.
The theft came to light after Target’s loss prevention team observed Velez using a fraudulent barcode to scan items at reduced prices at a self-checkout. After reviewing store security footage and receiving tips from an anonymous source, one of Velez’s followers, police connected her to the crime. They identified her through a TikTok video in which she appeared in the same outfit as seen in the surveillance footage, documenting her shopping spree.

Cape Coral Police Department, commenting on the incident, noted the pivotal role social media played in resolving the case. “Social media provided us with an unexpected lead, which sped up her identification and subsequent arrest,” said Officer Riley Carter.
Velez now faces petit theft charges for stealing items valued between $100 and $750, and her prior criminal record came to light following the arrest.
