A Hajj flight could not depart as a fire erupted early Thursday morning at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire caused partial damage to the airport’s immigration system, halting the immigration process. Due to smoke accumulation, passengers were evacuated from the immigration lounge for safety.
Airport authorities stated that Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene to manage the blaze. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined.
In a related incident from 2022, a fire occurred at Multan International Airport, attributed to an electrical short circuit.
The blaze originated in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration staff room. Upon notification, airport officials responded quickly, deploying fire tenders to extinguish the fire. Following the outbreak, the airport management evacuated both the international departure and arrival lounges, ensuring the safety of passengers and staff.
