The Islamabad Accountability Court has given defence lawyers one last chance to complete the cross-examination of two prosecution witnesses in the £190 million case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich of the Islamabad Accountability Court provided a detailed written order from the hearing on July 26. According to the order, officials first called the case at 10:40 AM, with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) witnesses in attendance. However, Imran Khan’s representative did not appear then, leading the court to postpone the hearing until 11:00 AM.
When the court reconvened at 11:15 AM, authorities presented Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Advocate Khalid Yousaf, representing the defence, notified the court that the senior lawyers were en route.
In his written order, Judge Warraich specified that this session would be the defence’s final opportunity to cross-examine the prosecution witnesses. He mandated that the defence lawyers must complete their cross-examination by July 30. During this period, prosecution witnesses Umair Ahmed and Mian Umar Nadeem are scheduled to record their statements.
This court decision aims to move the case forward efficiently and ensure adherence to due process, reflecting the gravity of the allegations and the accused’s high-profile status.
