The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned Sarfaraz Merchant on March 15 to probe the allegations he levelled against MQM’s London based leadership.
Merchant, a close aide of MQM leader Muhammad Anwar and a co-accused in money laundering case also involving Altaf Hussain and others, has been summoned under section 160.
The FIA plans to summon Merchant through a court order if he doesn’t show up on March 15.
During an interview with the popular news channel Geo News, Merchant had accused MQM of having links with Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
He had said not only did the investigators in London know about MQM’s Indian funding but they had also seized lists of weapons from the residence of Altaf Hussain during a raid.
Sarfaraz Merchant had also expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Pakistani authorities.
