The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) formally decided to seek the international police organisation (Interpol’s) help to bring back to Pakistan at least three accused involved in the murder of former MQM leader Dr. Imran Farooq.
According to sources, the FIA decided to secure arrest warrants of Altaf Hussain, Iftikhar Hussain and Muhammed Anwar from a local court in Pakistan.
It should be mentioned here that three accused are nominated in the FIR of Dr. Imran Farooq’s murder case.
It is pertinent to note here that two suspects of the murder – Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali – pleaded guilty before a magistrate, admitting their role in the high profile murder.
The third accused Muazzam Ali refused to depose. All the suspects are in FIA custody.
Following the confession of murder accused, the MQM denied any connection with assassination of senior party leader Dr. Imran Farooq who was killed in London in 2010.
“MQM is aware of reports in the Pakistani media that individuals held in detention by Pakistani authorities have allegedly confessed to the murder of Dr Imran Farooq. These individuals have allegedly named MQM personnel as having ordered the killing,” MQM said in a statement.
“We categorically state that no party personnel have had anything whatever to do with the tragic death of Dr Farooq. We mourn the loss of a man who was our friend and colleague for many years… MQM welcomes any assistance that may be provided to the British Metropolitan Police,” the statement further said.
