The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) launched its “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” program on July 24, 2025. This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s “Digital Pakistan” vision, which aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in electricity billing. The program empowers consumers to submit their own meter readings through the Power Smart App, helping to reduce overbilling and errors.

FESCO’s spokesperson stated, “This is a revolutionary initiative to empower consumers.” The program enables users to take photographs of their meter readings on specified dates and upload them via the Power Smart App, which is available on both the Google Play Store (for Android) and the App Store (for iOS). Consumers can register using their consumer ID and submit their readings, which will take precedence over the records maintained by the distribution company.

The uploaded reading determines the monthly bill, marked with “Apna Meter Apni Reading” and the photo, ensuring transparency. FESCO noted: “This helps eliminate overbilling, reading errors, and billing delays.”

The app benefits protected category users by preventing them from being misclassified into non-protected rates. It promotes accountability, reduces disputes, and streamlines the billing process. Consumers gain control over their electricity costs, aligning with Digital Pakistan’s goal of efficiency.

How to Use the Power Smart App

  1. Download the app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
  2. Register with your consumer ID and required details.
  3. Use the “Apna Meter Apni Reading” feature to upload a meter photo.
  4. Ensure photos are taken on the specified billing cycle date.

FESCO emphasised safety: “Maintain a safe distance from meters and wires while taking photos. Consumer safety is our highest priority.” Users must adhere to precautions to prevent electrical hazards.

This initiative follows FESCO’s efforts to modernise services amid Pakistan’s $12.4 billion influx of foreign loans in FY25, supporting digital infrastructure. Similar programs may expand to other regions, enhancing consumer trust.

FESCO’s app revolutionises billing transparency. Consumers are urged to adopt it safely to benefit from accurate billing and reduced errors.
