The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has responded to the calls of trade bodies and tax bar associations by extending the deadline for submitting income tax returns.
Late Saturday night, the FBR released a notification and later on Twitter detailing that the previous deadline of September 30 had been pushed to October 31, 2023.” In view of the demand of trade bodies and various tax bar associations, it has been decided that the date of filing of income tax return for Tax Year 2023 is extended to *31st October 2023*. However, no further extension for filing of said return shall be granted.”
Business Community’s Concerns
Previously, various business community representatives had strongly voiced their desire for the FBR to extend the tax return filing date even further, suggesting a new deadline of January 31, 2024. Leaders from several trader bodies, including Markazi Tanzeem-i-Tajiran provincial president Malik Meher Ilahi and Traders Alliance Federation provincial president Ghulam Bilal Javed, had put forth this proposition. They highlighted the debilitating impact of inflation on business operations, indicating that many within the business community found it challenging to meet the original deadline due to the prevailing economic hardships.
