The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has confirmed that the deadline for submitting income tax returns for the fiscal year 2024 will not be extended, effectively quashing rumours of a possible delay.
In a statement released Monday, the FBR emphasized that all information suggesting an extension was unfounded. “All taxpayers are urged to file their income tax returns promptly to avoid penalties and fines,” the FBR advised.
Speculation about a potential extension had been fueled by reports of system overloads, which purportedly affected the ability of some taxpayers to file their returns on time.

FBR sources have acknowledged these technical difficulties, noting that the system has been under significant strain, complicating the processing of larger tax filings. Despite these challenges, they reported that returns from salaried individuals have generally been processed without significant issues.
The FBR has received over 3.5 million income tax returns to date. Taxpayers are reminded that the filing deadline remains firmly set for September 30 and are encouraged to comply promptly to avoid any potential legal and financial repercussions.
