A 25-year-old man named Zhang met a tragic end attempting to bench press over 100 kilograms without the assistance of a spotter, highlighting the dangers of lifting heavy weights alone.
The distressing event happened on September 14 around 3:00 p.m., captured in a 29-second video shared widely through media channels. In the footage, Zhang struggles to lift the heavy barbell, a Herculean effort visibly pushing him to his physical boundaries.
Unfortunately, the barbell, which bore about 50 kilograms on each side, shifted perilously from his chest to his neck, trapping him in a terrifying hold. Despite fighting valiantly for 25 seconds to liberate himself from the weight’s oppressive force, help arrived too late.
Over a minute passed before others in the gym realized the gravity of the situation. Although quickly rushed to a hospital, Zhang succumbed to his injuries. A Wuhan Pafik Fitness Club spokesperson stated that Zhang, known for lifting significant weights, was a regular at their facility.
