After Fantus Kumar suffered a bullet wound to his abdomen in Nalanda, he was admitted to the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) in Patna, the city’s second-largest hospital. Despite receiving immediate care in the ICU, Kumar was declared dead at 8:55 pm on Friday. The following morning, the family encountered a horrifying discovery: Kumar’s left eye was missing.
The family accused hospital personnel of removing the eye, suggesting potential foul play or involvement in the illicit organ trade. “How can they be so negligent? This points to a possible conspiracy or involvement in organ trade,” Kumar’s brother-in-law stated. He expressed his dismay, emphasizing the severity of the trust breach if such a prominent institution was involved.

Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, NMCH Medical Superintendent, countered the family’s accusations by suggesting that rats might be responsible for the missing eye, confirming that an investigation was underway. “We’re examining all possibilities, including the disturbing likelihood of rats being involved,” he explained. An FIR was registered, and the hospital is awaiting post-mortem results to clarify the cause of the eye’s disappearance.

The police have also begun an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage to understand better what occurred in the ICU after Kumar’s death. “The family’s allegations are grave, indicating tampering with the body. We are taking these claims seriously and investigating all possible angles,” a police official remarked.
In Anand Hospital, Greater Noida, UP
the allegations of surgery on a child’s right eye instead of the left are misleading.
According to the surgeon, no surgery was performed; only minor debris was removed with proper treatment.

Mr Singh further explained the improbability of the eye is medically useful if removed, given the timing of the death and discovery. “The organ would not be viable for transplant purposes if removed hours after death, diminishing any motive linked to organ harvesting for medical use,” he clarified. He reassured that any negligence found through the investigation would lead to appropriate action.
