Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and provincial president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has chosen his brother, Faisal Amin Gandapur, to contest the National Assembly seat from Dera Ismail Khan, NA-44, which he vacated after winning in the February 8 general elections.
Ali Amin won in two constituencies, choosing to retain his position in the PK-113 Dera Ismail Khan-III seat and step down from the other.
In a video statement released on Friday, the Chief Minister disclosed that he had discussed this strategy with PTI founder Imran Khan, emphasizing that his brother’s candidacy was to strengthen the party’s representation.
Ali Amin Gandapur, having defeated Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl in the general elections, officially became the 18th Chief Minister of KP on March 2, with the endorsement of Imran Khan, securing 90 votes in the KP Assembly against his opponent’s 16 votes.
Faisal Amin Gandapur, with a background as a provincial minister in KP and a member of the KP government’s Wildlife and Biodiversity Board, is now set to contest in the forthcoming by-elections on April 21.
