In the Layyah land fraud case, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has extended the interim bail of Uzma Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and her husband. ACE Judge Naveed Ahmad Qureshi presided over the hearing and granted the request for bail extension after hearing arguments from both parties. The court adjourned the hearing until August 10.
Case details
The case revolves around allegations that Dr Uzma Khan and her husband, Ahad Majeed Niazi, engaged in fraudulent activities and exploited their political connections to obtain 5,261 kanal of land in the Nawan Kot area of tehsil Chaubara, located in Layyah district. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed, they purportedly acquired the land for a significantly lower price of Rs130 million, despite its actual value being estimated at Rs6 billion.
This land acquisition is significant due to its proximity to the Greater Thal Canal project, which aims to provide irrigation to regions like Layyah, Bhakkar, and Jhang.
The co-accused in this case is the Chairman of PTI, who is accused of using his position as the Prime Minister to aid his sister. He allegedly leveraged his office to facilitate the land acquisition process.
Dr Uzma and her husband have been granted bail, granting them temporary freedom while the case progresses.
