The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has made significant strides in addressing the challenges previously encountered with the Election Management System (EMS), as detailed by Additional Director General Haroon Shinwari.
With the nation’s general elections scheduled for February 8, Shinwari announced during a media briefing in Islamabad that all EMS-related issues, particularly those affecting voters with expired ID cards, have been resolved. This development ensures that individuals with expired identification can participate in the voting process without obstacles.
Strengthened Election Infrastructure
To bolster the electoral framework, the ECP has procured 3,000 laptops specifically for EMS usage and has completed the training of 3,600 operators to manage the system effectively. A state-of-the-art control room, equipped to operate independently via a private network, has been established to oversee the election proceedings, thus guaranteeing uninterrupted monitoring capabilities.
This initiative is complemented by introducing a WhatsApp platform for complaint registration, a novel approach aimed at enhancing the transparency and responsiveness of the election monitoring process.
In preparation for the elections, extensive measures have been taken to enforce the code of conduct among candidates, with numerous individuals facing fines or notices for violations.
Proactively removing unauthorized campaign materials and diligently resolving complaints underscore the ECP’s commitment to conducting a fair and orderly election. With all control rooms operational around the clock and the EMS poised for online and offline functionality, the ECP is fully prepared to deliver a seamless voting experience.
