The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has directed the concerned authorities to remove all illegal and hazardous bill boards from Karachi roads within a week to ensure end to haphazard growth of these bill boards.
He issued the directives while presiding over a meeting at Governor House in Karachi earlier yesterday.
Station Commander Karachi Brig. Zaheer, Administrator Roshan Ali Shaikh, Commissioner Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Deputy Commissioners of South and East, Administrators of Karachi South and East and officers of various cantonment boards also attended the meeting.
Governor Sindh said that hoardings and bill boards installed at the rooftop of buildings and inside houses should also be removed within this period as these could prove fatal in windy conditions and heavy rains.
Immediate steps are needed to spare Karachi from becoming a jungle of haphazard bill boards, he said and added, in this regard, the bye laws of KMC and Cantonment Boards should be implemented in letter and spirit.
The Governor said that hanging hoardings on footpaths should also be removed within the stipulated time period. Comparative study of bye laws of KMC and Cantonment Boards should also be carried out to ensure uniformity in this regard.
He directed the Administrator Karachi to take stern action against the firms and advertising agencies involved in cutting of trees for installation of hoardings.
Implementation on clauses on bye laws regarding distance between bill boards, design, width, height, size and most importantly their supporting base to ensure stability and uniformity, he said and added that this would beautify the city.
He further directed to erect bill boards outside of the airport, containing basic information regarding Karachi and the province so as to apprise the people coming to Karachi especially foreigners about the province.
He also directed DG SBCA Agha Maqsood Abbas to accelerate the work of identification of dangerous and dilapidated buildings and vacating the same as soon as possible. (APP)
