The EU foreign ministers’ visit to Ukraine highlighted continued European support as leaders gathered in Kyiv and Bucha to commemorate victims of the war. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul joined several EU counterparts and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas in Ukraine to mark the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Bucha.
The delegation visited Bucha, near Kyiv, where they honoured those killed during the early stages of Russia’s invasion. The visit served as both a memorial and a political statement, reinforcing the European Union’s ongoing backing for Ukraine.
Wadephul emphasised that support remains strong despite global challenges, including tensions related to the Iran conflict. “He underestimated our perseverance and our unwavering determination,” Wadephul said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the visit, Germany and the EU announced additional support measures. Officials handed over materials worth around two million euros to assist Ukraine’s railway system, which has been heavily affected by the war.
The railway network plays a crucial role in transportation and logistics across the country, making it a key focus for recovery efforts. The visit underscores the EU’s continued commitment to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. By combining symbolic gestures with practical assistance, European leaders aim to demonstrate both solidarity and long-term support.
