The European Union has urged the Pakistani government to reinstate moratorium on death penalty.
The EU spokesman in a statement said “Pakistan’s obligations under domestic and international law prohibit the death sentence for crimes committed by persons under eighteen years of age and require prompt and impartial investigation where there is reasonable ground to believe that torture has been committed,” .
The EU spokesperson further added that “The EU is opposed to capital punishment in all cases and has consistently called for its universal abolition. We call on Pakistan to reinstitute the moratorium and to respectfully all of its international obligations,”
It should be note that implementation moratorium on death penalty in a basis requirement of the international conventions under the European GPS+ regulation.
Earlier, the Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed the latest petition of Shafqat Hussain, a prisoner on death row.
Hussain had challenged a verdict of Islamabad High Court order rejecting his plea for age verification by a judicial forum instead of Federal Investigation Agency.

Since December 2014 at least 150 people have been executed in Pakistan.
