Elton John has revealed that he may not live to see his two children get married due to a serious infection that has caused him to lose his eyesight, which has left his husband, David Furnish, deeply distressed as he grappled with the reality of John’s mortality.
At 77 years old, John has been battling an infection that tragically robbed him of his vision. Despite these challenges, he recently concluded his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, choosing to dedicate more time to his family. John and Furnish, married for a decade, are raising two sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11.

Furnish expressed his sorrow in an interview with Disney+ for the documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late,” stating, “It really upset me.” He continued, “In my mind, I somehow think Elton will live forever. We all do—Elton’s vitality makes it a believable notion, but it confronts us with that reality.”

The music legend also shared his struggles during an appearance at the Dominion Theatre in London on December 1, where he disclosed his loss of vision. Despite the setback, he enjoyed “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” at the venue. In a conversation with ABC News, John admitted uncertainty about his future performances, as he can no longer see lyrics to gauge the flow of his songs.

Reflecting on his support system, John praised Furnish, his partner since 1993 and husband since 2014, acknowledging his unwavering support during the previews he struggled to attend. “To my husband,” John addressed the audience and Furnish, “who has been my rock because I haven’t been able to attend many of the previews. It’s hard to see, but I love hearing it, and it sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming.”
