At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, music icon Elton John, aged 76, honoured his friend and songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, by inducting him into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. This ceremony celebrated their partnership, which has spanned over five decades and produced numerous hits.
In his speech, Elton John excited the audience with a major announcement: the completion of a new album with Taupin. He enthusiastically enjoyed the album, saying, “It’s absolutely wonderful, full of youth and vitality.” John humorously apologized for his choice of words when he described how the album would “surprise the s— out of you,” showcasing his characteristic charm.
Taupin’s Legacy and Future Projects
Towards the end of his speech, John lauded Taupin as “one of the finest lyric writers of all time,” emphasizing the depth and evolving meanings he discovers in Taupin’s lyrics each time he performs them. He also highlighted the trust and flexibility in their working relationship, where Taupin would accommodate changes John suggested to the songs.
The project was hinted at earlier by Taupin himself. In a conversation with Rolling Stone regarding his Hall Of Fame induction, Taupin teased some undisclosed plans. Further affirming their ongoing collaboration, Taupin assured in an interview with PEOPLE that they would “definitely make another record,” emphasizing that John’s end of touring does not mean a decrease in his creative output.
