Tesla CEO Elon Musk has delayed his planned trip to India, reports CNBC-TV18, citing informed sources.
Musk intended to visit on April 21 and 22 to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss Tesla’s entry into the Indian market. Earlier, Musk had expressed eagerness to meet Indian Prime Minister Modi, drawing global attention.
On the social platform X, previously Twitter, Musk posted his anticipation of the meeting.
As noted by Business Today, the reasons for the delay are currently unclear. Still, Musk might explore establishing Tesla manufacturing in India, linked to a recent government electric vehicle policy offering incentives.
Musk’s 48-hour visit originally included meetings with the Prime Minister, space startups, and business leaders. He planned to engage with startups at Bharat Mandapam, an exhibition centre.
The finalization of the Starlink agreement during this visit is still uncertain, pending approval from India’s Ministry of Home Affairs. The delay may also be related to the upcoming Indian elections, during which Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to be re-elected.
Business Today suggests that a formal Starlink announcement is unlikely now due to the electoral model code of conduct.
