Elon Musk announced the formation of the America Party, a new U.S. political party aimed at challenging the two-party system, following a public feud with President Donald Trump over a $3.3 trillion spending bill.
Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, announced on X, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” referencing a poll in which 80% of 5.6 million respondents expressed support for a new political party. Musk intends to focus on 2–3 Senate seats and 8–10 House districts in 2026, aiming to leverage narrow legislative margins to influence policy, CNBC reported. As of July 5, no Federal Election Commission (FEC) registration for the America Party appeared on record, signalling that the initiative remains in the conceptual stage, as reported by The New York Times.

Context of Musk-Trump Feud
Musk, who donated $280 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign via America PAC, fell out with the president over the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which he called a “disgusting abomination” for increasing the national debt, per CBS News. Having led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) until May 2025, Musk criticized the bill’s spending, clashing with Trump’s agenda. Trump threatened to cut subsidies for Musk’s companies, per Reuters.
By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!
When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.

Creating a third-party faces significant hurdles, including state ballot access laws and a two-party system that dominates 90% of voters, per Gallup’s 2024 poll, which shows 58% support for alternatives. X posts like “Musk’s America Party could shake things up!” garnered 300,000 engagements, but experts like Thomas Gift doubt its viability, calling it a “bluff,” per Al Jazeera. Andrew Yang expressed interest in collaborating, per POLITICO.
Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!
Should we create the America Party?
