After Donald Trump’s recent election, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are relocating from the U.S.. The couple has decided to sell their Montecito mansion and reportedly will not return to the USA to live permanently.
Reports indicate that DeGeneres and de Rossi have moved to the United Kingdom, seeking a fresh start. The couple, who have been married since 2008, has listed their Montecito residence for sale, as noted by The Wrap.
Sources suggest the decision stems from their disillusionment with Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris. One insider told TMZ that the couple wanted to “get the hell out” immediately. DeGeneres, a staunch supporter of Harris, had actively contributed $3,300 to the vice president’s campaign.
In an Instagram post last August, DeGeneres expressed her support: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.”

Looking ahead, DeGeneres and de Rossi have settled in the Cotswolds, South West England, an area approximately two hours from London. This region is popular among celebrities, with neighbours including David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, and Jeremy Clarkson. Additionally, King Charles and Queen Camilla own Highgrove House in nearby Gloucestershire.
The Montecito property, part of DeGeneres’s extensive real estate portfolio, was purchased in 2019 for $27 million. The couple’s move marks a significant change, reflecting their desire for a new beginning away from the political climate in the U.S.
