Elden Ring, the critically acclaimed fantasy RPG developed by FromSoftware, has surpassed 23 million copies in sales since its launch in 2022, Bandai Namco has officially confirmed.
Bandai Namco announced the milestone alongside the release of the gameplay trailer and the launch date for the game’s first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, exactly one year after Elden Ring had achieved global sales of 20 million copies.
The total sales figure for Elden Ring encompasses both physical and digital versions across various platforms, including PC via Steam. This title has become FromSoftware’s most successful release, surpassing Dark Souls 3, which, as of 2020, had sold over 10 million units. Elden Ring is approaching the cumulative sales of the Dark Souls series, which has over 27 million copies.
The introduction of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is anticipated to boost sales further. Bandai Namco has recently shared the expansion’s gameplay trailer and set a release date for June 21. The trailer, spanning three minutes, introduces fans to new environments, adversaries, and bosses, offering numerous insights.
Shadow of the Erdtree, which requires the base game for access, will also be offered as part of a bundle with Elden Ring, presenting both the original game and the expansion. Elden Ring continues to draw significant attention on Steam, maintaining a concurrent player count close to 50,000.
In February 2023, Bandai Namco disclosed that Elden Ring had reached 20 million worldwide sales within a year of its launch. The publisher thanked the game’s community and pledged ongoing development to enrich the Elden Ring experience. Released on February 25, 2022, across multiple platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, Elden Ring was honoured with the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2022.
