On May 27, 2025, Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Zil Hajj 1446 Hijri moon was not sighted, confirming Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7. The decision, made after a meeting in Islamabad, has spurred preparations for the Festival of Sacrifice nationwide.
The committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, found no credible reports of moon sighting from major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Islamabad.
SUPARCO’s astronomical data confirmed that the moon’s age was approximately 11 hours at sunset, making it too young to be visible. Consequently, Zil Hajj 1 will commence on Thursday, May 29, and Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on the 10th day, June 7.
Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Muslims mark the occasion by slaughtering animals such as goats, sheep, or cows over three days, sharing the meat with family, friends, and the poor, symbolising charity and community.
