The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will reconvene today to propose the last week of April as the date for the Punjab Assembly’s general elections.
The Supreme Court (SC) ordered elections be held in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 90 days.
Today’s meeting of the ECP will be its third straight day setting the dates for the two provinces’ elections.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over a meeting Thursday at the ECP Secretariat, where members and the secretary were present.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case involving the postponement of provincial assembly elections, the meetings were held.

A week after Eid ul Fitr, likely to occur on April 22, the ECP finalized its proposed Punjab assembly election dates.
According to the sources, the holy month of Ramadan and the religious holiday of Eid are considered.
In addition, the sources indicated that some preliminary decisions had been made but would not be made public until after the consultation was complete.
In light of this, a letter recommending a date for the Punjab Assembly elections will likely be sent to President Dr. Arif Alvi on Friday.
The Punjab Assembly election schedule will be made public after the president’s approval.
According to the law, elections were required to be held 90 days following the dissolution of the Punjab and KP assemblies, which occurred on January 14 and January 18, respectively.
