The Sindh government has announced an Easter holiday in Sindh for Christian employees on April 5 and 6, giving them time to celebrate one of Christianity’s most sacred festivals without work obligations.
The decision applies across Karachi and other parts of the province. It covers Christian staff working in government and semi-government offices, as well as local councils, corporations, autonomous bodies, and provincial departments.
The provincial government announced the holidays on Saturday and said Sunday, April 5, and Monday, April 6, will be observed as official holidays for the Christian community across Sindh.
The order, approved by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah, allows Christian employees to observe Easter with their families and communities. As a result, eligible staff will not be required to attend work on those days.
Government and semi-government offices will remain closed for Christian employees during the holiday period. The announcement also includes local government councils, corporations, and autonomous institutions operating under the provincial administration.
The move aims to ensure that Christian workers can fully take part in Easter traditions and religious observances. It also reflects the provincial government’s emphasis on accommodating minority communities during important religious occasions.
The announcement sends a message of religious respect and inclusion in Sindh. By formally recognising Easter for Christian employees, the provincial government has signalled support for interfaith harmony and equal recognition of religious celebrations.
