On September 2, 2025, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, and other areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported. The Seismic Network said the earthquake’s centre was in southeast Afghanistan, 22 kilometres underground.
The PMD said people felt the shaking across northern Pakistan. So far, no damage or injuries have been reported, but residents in these areas felt the tremors and became more alert.
