Dr. Nadeem Jan, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, has initiated substantial progress in ensuring the availability of life-saving medications in Pakistan. In response to the urgency, the Ministry of Health, under his guidance, has prioritized the registration of essential medicines.
Following the Health Minister’s directives, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has approved the registration of several medications on a priority basis, especially for diabetes and anticancer drugs, which are now more readily accessible. DRAP has also sanctioned the import and local production of anti-cancer drugs alongside the registration of anaesthesia injections.
Advancing Vaccine Availability and Pharma Industry
Another notable advancement is the approval of influenza vaccines and heparin and enoxaparin injections. The registration of the new anti-diabetic drug, Semaglutide injection, is expected to markedly improve the supply of treatments for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening conditions. Minister Nadeem Jan assures that the uninterrupted supply of these medicines will be a priority, highlighting the government’s commitment to healthcare accessibility.
In a strategic move to bolster local medicine production, the government is establishing a pharma park. This initiative aims to enhance the production and promotion of medications within Pakistan and expand the capacity of the pharmaceutical industry, further strengthening the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.
