An unexpected turn of events has unfolded in the case of Tahir Mahmood, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony, Karachi, and an online taxi driver who was previously believed to have committed suicide near the Sea View Do Darya area.
Mahmood, who was reported to have committed suicide, reappeared at his home unexpectedly after Edhi maritime services had spent two days searching for his body in the sea.
According to local news channel ARY News, Mahmood was discovered in a private hospital in Shah Faisal, admitted by his second wife and brother-in-law. However, the situation escalated when Mahmood’s cousin and father arrived at the hospital, prompting his wife and brother-in-law to flee the scene.
Mahmood said that his visit to Do Darya followed an argument with his wife, during which he ventured into the sea and made a video call to her, ostensibly to threaten suicide. He later reconsidered, citing his religious beliefs as the reason for not going through with taking his own life and stated that his intention was merely to scare his wife.
Mahmood reported that while returning from the sea, he was attacked by four individuals who sprayed him with a substance that caused him to lose consciousness. Upon waking, he found himself in Nazimabad, missing his mobile phone, identification card, and other personal items. He managed to make his way back to his home in Shah Faisal on foot, where his wife and brother-in-law subsequently transported him to the hospital. The following morning, his parents and cousin arrived and accompanied him to the Shah Faisal police station to give his statement.
Earlier, Mahmood’s second wife reported to the police that he had drowned at Sea View, Do Darya. The police, having found Mahmood’s taxi near the coast, launched a full investigation into the matter. Mahmood’s second wife and brother-in-law have now been summoned by the police for further questioning.
