The Islamabad High Court has restored Dr Fazeela Abbasi‘s interim bail in a multi-billion-rupee money laundering case, giving temporary relief to the sister of actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. The court directed her to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000 and said she should not be arrested once the bonds are furnished.
Dr Fazeela Abbasi appeared before the court along with her counsel, senior lawyer Naeem Bukhari. After hearing arguments, the high court reinstated her interim bail and directed her to approach the trial court again.
During the hearing, Bukhari told the court that his client had already appeared before the trial court on three earlier occasions. He said that on one date of non-appearance, she had submitted a three-day medical certificate.
However, the trial court rejected that medical certificate and cancelled her bail. Following that decision, she approached the Islamabad High Court to seek protection from arrest.
The Islamabad High Court also instructed the registrar’s office to fix the case for hearing. In addition, it ordered that Dr Fazeela Abbasi should not be taken into custody upon submission of the required surety bonds.
The order provides her with temporary relief, but it does not resolve the case. Instead, the matter will now be returned to the trial court for further proceedings.
Dr Fazeela Abbasi is wanted by the Federal Investigation Agency in a high-profile money laundering case involving allegations of transferring large sums abroad. The case drew renewed attention after the trial court cancelled her earlier bail.
Her latest appearance before the high court was aimed at preventing arrest after that cancellation. For now, the Islamabad High Court’s order has provided temporary legal relief while the case continues.
