Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Monday that a fleet of double-decker buses has arrived at Karachi Port, marking another step toward improving public transport in the provincial capital.
On the social media platform X, the minister shared photographs of the newly arrived buses and said they would soon be operational on Karachi’s roads. He stated that the Sindh government, through its transport department, is actively working to ease long-standing transportation challenges faced by residents of the port city.
“Double-decker buses for Karachi have reached the port. Inshallah, these buses will soon be on the roads for the people of Karachi,” Sharjeel Memon wrote, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening urban mobility.

The arrival of the buses comes as part of broader efforts by the Sindh government to modernise public transport and provide safer, more efficient travel options for commuters. Officials believe adding double-decker buses will help reduce congestion and improve the travel experience.
The development also comes amid transport-related decisions in other provinces. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif rejected a recent increase in fares for the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab’s double-decker bus service.

The fare for the TDCP service was raised from Rs200 to Rs500, with a proposed increase of Rs5,000 to Rs20,000 for corporate bookings, educational institutions, and commercial activities. Following the chief minister’s intervention, the fare hike notification was withdrawn, and the previous rates were restored.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed concern that higher fares would place an unnecessary financial burden on the public, stressing that public transport should remain affordable and accessible.
With Karachi’s new double-decker buses now at port, residents are hopeful the initiative will soon translate into improved connectivity and relief from daily commuting difficulties.
